"Hello [Senator], as your constituent, I strongly urge you to oppose LB316. The bill is being characterized as a pro-hemp, but it bans hemp-derived CBD products. Adding an excise tax on the few products that remain legal, namely very limited kinds of CBD, will not affect the fiscal note in any meaningful way. CBD is a tiny fraction of hemp sales in Nebraska. We will still see almost a $10 million drop out of the state's budget at a time when it is needed most. It will also destroy Nebraskans' right to choose what they consume. Alcohol and tobacco are the number one and number two causes of preventable death in Nebraska. If the state thinks people have the right to use these deadly drugs, then why not a drug which has never killed a single person? Plus, this ban destroys hundreds of businesses, thousands of employees and their income taxes, and millions in economic activity.
